This was the first BADASS meeting that was not held in a member’s home or at the Pool. We assembled
at the Old Line Wine & Spirits store in Beltsville, MD and were the guests of Larry Pendleton V, whose
family owns the store. About 20 BADASSers took over the back of the Bistro and we commenced to
sampling beers aligned with our theme for the evening: European Lawn Mower beers. There were
Czech Pils, German Kölsch, and other low alcohol Euro ales & lagers.
But the festivities did not stop there. Brian T brought along the last of his Red Menace Indigenous
Ale and it was quite an intro to this new member. Look forward to many more great brews from
Brian. Chris K & Michelle T were gracious enough to share half of their stash of the 2014 AHA NHC
commemorative beer from Founders. It was an Oak-aged Rye IPA and it was an amazing brew. Coming
in around 7.2% and 55 well-balanced IBUs, this ale showed oaky vanilla notes, with a great aroma, and
a bit of alcohol warmth. The biggest complaint was that they only brought one bomber. Oh well, this
would make a great group brew and Justin K is working on a clone recipe. Mark L (Wild Rumpus) and
Keri T (Walking Carpet) dispensed some of their recent brew products and there may have been others,
but my memory is short. Members also took advantage of the food and draft offerings at Old Line to
round out the evening.
Thanks to all that made it out on a dark and stormy night. Cheers.
